Making the Viral Frozen Ramen in Chicago
Sunday, January 21, 2024
Winter Storm Heather, a potent low-pressure system, swept across the U.S. from January 13th to 16th, 2024, leaving a trail of icy conditions and snowfall. Pretty much everywhere in the US experienced blizzards, power outages, and extremely cold temperatures.
Most of the PulseTV Office had a snow day and worked from the comforts of their homes since travel was dangerous. A few days after everything calmed down from the initial blast in the Chicago Suburbs, temperatures stabilized but was still -1 degrees, and maybe -20 with the wind chill. One night, I decided to try the viral #ramenchallenge trick I saw so much on TikTok!
I always have a few packets of ramen ready to go, and regularly use my Rapid Ramen Cooker (I've had this in my kitchen even before PulseTV started selling it!) so it was a no brainer. Want to make your own "frozen" ramen? Here are the steps.
- Prepare your Ramen. Get out the noodle block and place it in the Rapid Ramen Cooker. It's square shape accommodates the noodles better than a round bowl!
- Add Water to the fill line. I love that you don't have to grab a measuring cup or guess how much water to add.
- Microwave 2-3 minutes.
- Go outside and grab your chopsticks (or fork). Spin the noodles around your utensil and hold it up somehow - use a mason jar, boxes, tupperware... something so that you create a little sculpture. Fluff it up or add more noodles to your liking.
- Wait for it to freeze! It was super cold, so must have frozen solid for me within 10 minutes. I'm not sure of the exact time, cause I was NOT waiting around out there!
But it was a fun experiment! Does it have to be done using Shark Tank's Rapid Ramen Microwave Cooker? Absolutely not - but I use that thing all the time anyway! I recommend this as the easiest way to make microwaved ramen, hands-down. But for this frozen trick, you can use any bowl, plate, or takeout container.
That brings me to another idea - you don't even have to do this with ramen. You can do the exact same thing with a plate of spaghetti and meatballs! Whatever you do, just make sure it's cold enough.
Overall, it was a fun little video to shoot, and even got a few laughs out of making a blooper video (See Below). For more fun content make sure you Follow/Heart/Subscribe to us on all our social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube.
